hmm hmm.
Today's motion was THW Lower the drinking age to 18, or in PUBLIC POLICY debate, Resolved : That we should lower the drinking age to 18. Yayaa, whichever works. lol.And so,I was negative.
first of all, I would like to say that I'm SOOOO GLAD that my coach was not there. Seriously. He might CRY (hello there, Phie :p). So we started the debate. Affirmative first (ya obviously). Well the debate system is "a little bit" different than "ours". We had 3 on 2 today. I was the 2, with Kruti. 1st aff constructive, then 1st neg constructive only WITHOUT rebuttal, 2nd aff constructive only, 2nd neg constructive, 1st neg rebut (since we only have 2 people in our team) for just 3 minutes, 3rd aff rebuttals for 3 minutes, then 2nd neg rebut, then another 3rd aff rebuttals for 3 minutes. I was 2nd speaker (ya of course. lol.) Although I wasn't supposed to give rebuttals during my constructive speech, I did. Well I kind of mixed my rebuttals with my arguments so it didn't really matter. I guess :p. Constructive speeches are 4 minutes each. FOUR MINUTES. Holy sh*t. I mean, i know that 4 minutes is just for constructive without rebuttals, but as everyone (probably) has known, I CAN'T do speech without rebuttals. That's why I hate to be a 1st speaker, furthermore, I already have a good 1st speaker (ya go marsh! ;) Rebuttals are 6 minutes but in our case, we have to do it both so it's 3 minutes each. THREE. Screw my life.
Hm hmm. Another different thing is that we are allowed to just literally read the speech, besause Leahy (my teacher) said that we have to know exactly where we are and what we are talking about during the speech. Oh well, I have my own type of debate though. I can't just simply read like that. And I did put more effort NOT TO BE FRANTIC (highlight that), and not to be sarcastic (Indonesian debaters, ya know what I mean, don't you? lol.) I didn't say "shame shame" for today, but i did say "hear hear". I just can't help. Hahaa.
Bagian yang ini khusus buat indonesian debaters. Kemaren gw ngadju anak2 amerika ini dua hari berturut2. GILA BIKIN STRES LAH. Debatnya ga nge-clash! Gimana ngga, orang rebuttal speechnya juga disiapin dari minggu2 sebelumnya! Emang gitu instruksinya dari gurunya sih. Gila gila bete gw. Jadi 3rd speakersnya tu dengan tenang tinggal ngeluarin teks speech yang diketik rapi dan udah disiapin even sebelum ngedenger argumen lawannya, trus maju ke podium, trus baca deh! Busett. Gw cuman bisa ngeliat dengan ngeri. Rebuttalsnya ga nge-clash sama sekali sama case lawannya. Pas disuruh nentuin siapa yang menang, bingung gw. Kacau lahh. Lawan gw juga sama ajaa. Arguman gw ga kesentuh gituu.
Anyway, today was pretty fun. I did debate again after a while (approximately 6 or 7 months). Hff. Once again, I'm glad that SEF 3 AND SEF ITB people were not there. here, I did a really bad signpost, I was frantic after all, and I was still lacking of elaboration. Huaaaa... I'll try harder not to get dumber :p
And oh, at the end of my speech I said, "And so, I rest my case in piece while theirs ini pieces." Lol. The whole class was laughing. Hahaa, it's been a while since the last time I said that sentence. Crap. I miss my teammates, my coach, my sparring partners! I miss those magical moments in debate competition; when we're getting frustrated on practices, when we were tortured by our coaches, when we have our "nice" 30 minutes casebuilding, when we waited for the announcement of the breaking teams, when we were wondering if we're gonna win, when we talked about hearing aid (lol), when we play 24 during the break, when we hated the stupid adjudicator, and so much other "when"s.
Yah, life your live. Hear hear, debaters.
